Future Animal Welfare & Children’s Learning Center

Mission: To help every cat and dog have a safe, happy, and healthy life.

This center will offer interactive programs that blend animal welfare, marine conservation, and environmental stewardship. Our community-driven animal welfare program is dedicated to fostering meaningful initiatives, including:

Dog Walking Program – Promoting physical and mental well-being for both dogs and community members, with volunteer support from the Palacios Community Hub.
Story Book Corner & Cat Café Lounge – A dual-purpose program that fosters literacy, intergenerational connections, and animal socialization.
Adoption Program – Expanding adoption efforts through community engagement and outreach in collaboration with the City of Palacios.
Wildlife & Aquatic Children's Education Program – Educating the next generation on animal care and environmental stewardship, with support from local experts.

We are thrilled to showcase our community programs. With strong backing from the City of Palacios, we are eager to bring these initiatives to fruition and are actively seeking grant opportunities and potential partnerships to help fund and sustain these programs.

This facility will serve as a hub for education, compassion, and action, promoting animal welfare while connecting the community to its environment in meaningful ways.

BUILDING DESIGN

We have partnered with the City of Palacios and we are currently looking at potential properties.

The exact dimensions and building specifications will be tailored to meet the community's needs and are available for discussion upon request.

  • Set up a spay/neuter program in collaboration with local veterinarians.

PROPOSED IMPACT

Having a facility that helps the local animals will only be a temporary solution and there is a need to find ways of educating the community and the next generation on how to care for domestic animals and ecosystems of the coastal environments.

1.Reduce Euthanasia Rates: Our goal is to become a model of no-kill practices in Texas, setting an example for other shelters and communities. By using creative solutions, including foster care and partnerships with rescue groups, we will reduce euthanasia rates in our region to zero, unless medically necessary.

2.Increase Adoption Rates: We will aim to significantly increase the number of animals adopted from our shelter by offering regular adoption events, building relationships with local pet stores, and leveraging social media to reach potential adopters.

3.Provide Community Education: We will offer educational programs to schools, local businesses, and community centers about the importance of responsible pet ownership, including spay/neuter practices, the benefits of adopting, and the impact of overpopulation on shelters. Educational programs that blend animal welfare, ocean studies, and wildlife conservation. Include hands-on activities, workshops, and field trips. Teach children about caring for animals and the environment through interactive lessons. We will work with the school in the area on volunteer opportunities for the children and educational opportunities. With careful planning and a passion for education and conservation, the children's learning center can make a significant impact in fostering a generation that values animal welfare and environmental conservation.

4.Community Engagement:  We will partner with local organizations- wildlife and aquatic organizations in the area, and other animal shelters for resources and expertise. Host events that celebrate both ocean conservation and animal welfare, fostering community involvement and education.

Each organization can promote the other’s mission, helping to raise awareness about issues affecting both terrestrial and marine environments.

*Family Events: Host family days, educational fairs, or eco-friendly activities to engage the community.
